Corn Fest has something for everyone

By Philip Dalton

There’s more than corn in DeKalb.

Students could learn a lot about what DeKalb has to offer at this year’s Corn Fest, an annual celebration of DeKalb’s bounty.

This year’s Corn Fest will have many attractions for young and old. Children can get involved in many events designed just for kids. Friday the fest opens with a carnival that runs straight through to the closing day. There will also be arts and crafts as well as races for the children to participate in.

There will be music for everybody this year. The fest is offering two stages. There will be a soundstage with some well- known acts such as Steppenwolf and KoKo Taylor, who will both be performing on Sunday. There will also be a community stage which will feature some local acts and music aimed at more mature audiences.

Corn Fest will also be a great opportunity for shoppers. There will be sidewalk sales, craft shows, and auctions for browsers. Wayne Studniarz, Corn Fest chairman, said people will see many shops that they didn’t know existed in DeKalb.

Corn Fest will also have corn, and plenty of it. Del Monte will be sponsoring a corn boil and will be distributing free corn, while supplies last. A beer and wine garden can also be found. This will be run by the Catholic organization, the Knights of Columbus on Saturday and Sunday.

Studniarz encourages students to come out to the celebration, and says Corn Fest is a “great opportunity to see what DeKalb has to offer.”

This year’s Corn Fest will run from Friday to Sunday. If anyone has any questions about the events scheduled, the DeKalb Corn Fest Hotline is 748-2676.
