NIU libraries to benefit from sale

By Carol Ekstrom

Anyone looking for bargains in purchasing books and magazines can find them at Founders Memorial Library, while helping the library’s cause at the same time.

The Friends of NIU Libraries is holding its 10th-annual book sale April 21 and 22.

Proceeds from the sale help finance special purchases of rare books and manuscripts for the NIU libraries.

Library Acquisitions Professor Mary Anderson said the organization is instrumental in helping the library make purchases that normally would not be possible.

“The money raised throughout the year by the Friends of NIU Libraries supplements our budget,” she said. “When a need arises during the year for special purchases, the board decides how the money will be spent.”

Anderson said last year’s proceeds were used to purchase a 92-book collection of Edward Ardizzone, a famous children’s illustrator from England.

Anderson said the books for the sale are donated from members of the organization and people in the community.

A variety of books will be available for purchase including children’s books and magazines, adult books and scholarly texts.

The sale runs Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more details, call Anderson at 753-0181.

Membership to the Friends of NIU Libraries is open to anyone interested in supporting the library.
