University Police are charging three men with burglary after finding stolen stereo equipment in a car occupied by an NIU student and two other men.

NIU student Richard J. Zilinski, 20, 835 Edgebrook, Apt. 5, was arrested Saturday by the UPs and charged with burglary. Paul J. Siwinski, 19, Berwyn, and Brian M. Polubiuski, 17, Chicago, also were charged with burglary in the incident, UP Lt. Kathy Guimond said.

The three men were being held in DeKalb County Jail until Monday morning when a judge will set their bond.

An NIU student who lives in Stevenson Towers told police that he saw three men acting suspiciously in student parking lot P, Guimond said. The student saw the men from his residence hall window, Guimond said.

When the police stopped and questioned the men, they found about $3,000 in stereo equipment that did not belong to the men in their car, she said.

The equipment is believed to have come from several cars parked in NIU lots, Guimond said.

The UPs are continuing the investigation. Other charges might be pending, Guimond said. UP Sgt. Richard Sheridan said Sunday that other people might be involved and also could be charged.
