Comedian Mario Joyner to entertain at NIU

A popular personality from MTV will be making a stop in DeKalb this week.

A comedy show starring Mario Joyner, a stand-up comic and sometimes-host of an MTV comedy show, will entertain on Tuesday starting at 8 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

The Pontiac All-Star Comedy Tour in conjunction with NIU’s Campus Activities Board will sponsor the concert with a percentage of the proceeds going to the Comic Relief Foundation.

The foundation, set up by comics Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, and Billy Crystal, helps the homeless in a variety of ways.

“We feel extremely fortunate that the tour chose NIU because of the competition involved in landing the tour,” said CAB President Jennifer Spaulding.

Spaulding said NIU was chosen because of last year’s successful comedy show with Elayne Boosler. The parents and family show was sold out and contributed $1200 of the proceeds to Students Against Drunk Driving.

Tickets for the Joyner show will be on sale Monday and Tuesday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Pontiac Entertainment Center located in the Pow Wow. All tickets are general admission and the price is $3.

The first 150 ticket buyers will receive a free t-shirt. There will also be an opportunity to enter a drawing to win a 1992 spring break trip to Daytona, Fla.

“This show should be hilarious, everyone should have a great time,” Spaulding said.

Tickets will be available at the door, Spaulding said, only if the show is not sold out.
