DeKalb may get a business boost soon.

Sho-Deen Inc., a Geneva building development company who previously has worked in Kane County and Fox Valley, is interested in working with DeKalb.

DeKalb City Council recently approved the concept plans for the building of various businesses and apartment complexes at Peace Road and Ill. Route 38.

Sho-Deen President David Patzelt said he hopes to start building as early as this summer.

“If voting for preliminary and final planning goes through, I hope that the groundbreaking will begin around this summer,” he said.

Some of the places planned are a Marriott Hotel, apartments and several retail stores.

DeKalb City Manager Mark Biernacki said he expects these places to be built within a couple of years.

“The building should take over a period of two to three years,” he said.

Patzelt said they have had interest in DeKalb for the last few years.

“We have owned the land on Peace Road and Route 38 for the last two years and have had plans to do something with the land since the concept plans were approved in January,” he said.

Biernacki thinks DeKalb residents will benefit from these additions.

“People will benefit from this by opportunities being added to shop,” he said. “Also, the new apartments will help meet the demands for living and give residents other options.”

Patzelt said he also sees various benefits for the DeKalb community.

“It will bring goods and services to DeKalb and will improve roadways around the area that will be benefited by the motoring public,” he said.
