Police Beat | Blotter

February 16, 2011

1- DeKalb County Sheriff's Police stopped a vehicle for having no tail lights in the 500 block of east Route 38 in Malta at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday. After stopping the vehicle, police found that the driver, Frank W. Childers, 29, of Burlington, Ill., was driving under the influence. Police arrested Childers and transported him to the DeKalb County Jail.

2- Loss prevention from the Steak and Shake at 2380 Sycamore Road reported to police Tuesday they suspect an internal theft may be responsible for the loss of items valued at $700. Loss prevention stated that it is possible any employee could have committed the theft, and that they would contact police with further information.

3- A collision occurred in the 500 block of S. Seventh Street at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday. One of the drivers, Destiney M. Farmer, 16, of DeKalb, backed out of her driveway into the rear passenger side of a vehicle driven by James D. Bankston, 45, of DeKalb. Farmer said she did not observe any traffic and backed out, whereupon she collided with Bankston. Bankston said he observed Farmer backing out and repeatedly sounded his horn. Bankston then swerved to avoid a collision before Farmer struck his vehicle.
