Population to be discussed

By Grant Miller

Area scientists will spend a few days at NIU sharing their ideas on population biology next week.

Thirteen speakers are planning to attend the 12th annual Midwest Conference on Population Biology, lecturing on behavioral, ecological and evolutional aspects of population biology.

“Population biology is the contrast of molecular biology,” said assistant biology professor Bethia King.

“Whereas molecular biology studies the individual cell, population biology studies at the whole behavior of an organism.”

On Friday, Oct. 25, there will be an introductory mixer at the Holmes Student Center, but a majority of the speakers will be in attendance on the 26th in the music building, King said.

A banquet will also be held at the Hunan House, 1221 W. Lincoln Hwy.

The Saturday evening banquet will feature May Berenbaum, a University of Illinois professor giving her speech called “Rated ‘r’: Life History Strategies In The Movies.”

Sunday seminars begin at 9:00 a.m. and last until noon.

The cost for the three-day conference is $12.
