DeKALB – Junior guard David Coit of the NIU men’s basketball team has secured Huskie of the Week honors after a 27-point outing in Saturday’s 91-78 victory over Appalachian State University.

The 5-foot-11 guard out of Columbus, New Jersey, shot 8-for-16 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line (9-for-9). Coit also snagged 5 rebounds and rendered 6 assists in the win.

Coit leads the Huskies in scoring after three games with 51 points. This is Coit’s third time receiving the honor after being selected in back-to-back weeks on Jan. 24 and Jan. 30.

After Monday’s 52-point victory over the Illinois Institute of Technology, Coit and the Huskies look ahead to their two-game slate at the Capitol Challenge in Atlanta, Georgia. NIU faces Georgia State University at 1 p.m. Friday.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on Nov. 20.

The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Nov. 6 to Nov. 12.
