Stonebraker claims first career Huskie of the Week honor

DeKALB – Senior forward Brooke Stonebraker notched NIU women’s basketball’s second Huskie of the Week honor of the 2023-24 season.

Stonebraker scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Huskies’ (8-7, 2-2 MAC) 67-62 win over the Ohio University Bobcats (4-10, 1-3 MAC) Wednesday. Stonebraker also swatted away two shots in the victory.

Despite falling to the Kent State University Golden Flashes 73-48 Sunday, Stonebraker turned in another strong performance, scoring 15 points, securing 9 rebounds and swiping 2 steals.

The 6-foot-3 forward is now averaging 10.8 points and a team-leading 8.1 rebounds per game through 15 games of the 2023-24 season.

The Huskies’ next game will be against the University at Buffalo (8-6, 2-2 MAC) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Convocation Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available via SideArm Stats.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on Jan. 22.

The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Jan. 8 to Jan. 14.
