Doors open today for the NIU School of Theatre and Dance’s first production of the spring semester.

“Anxious People!” is a play written by Seattle-based Parley Productions member Carol Lee. The play will focus on the cascading stories that testify the relatability of anxiety while traveling through emotions of joy, sorrow and melancholy.

The show is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Sally Stevens Players Theatre in the NIU Stevens Building.

The show will contain adult language and mature themes.

The characters are expected to explore the nerve, risk, fear, control and vulnerability that can be felt in tense and secret intimate relationships.

The play, roughly an hour and 50 minutes, will be directed by Alys Dickerson, an artistic associate at American Players Theatre in Spring Green, Wisconsin.

Dickerson notes the play is a comment on agency, childhood, grief, love and family. The cast is asked to “embrace their anxiety.”

Tickets are only available online and must be purchased in advance for performances.

The full cast list and production bios are available on the NIU College of Visual and Performing Arts website.
