DeKALB – Redshirt sophomore Jacobi Jackson garnered wrestling’s first Huskie of the Week honor of the year with a dual-deciding win against  redshirt sophomore Dan McKiernan of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday.

After blowing a 16-6 advantage, the MAC West title hung in the balance of Jackson’s heavyweight bout. Jackson found his offense immediately, running a half-nelson to pin McKiernan in 1:33.

This marks the second dual this season that came down to Jackson’s match at heavyweight. On Feb. 3 Jackson defeated University at Buffalo redshirt freshman Lonnell Owens-Pabon in a 12-3 major decision.

Jackson’s efforts clinched the MAC West title for NIU and a perfect home record. 

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on March 4.

Northern Star sports sections’ Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Feb. 19 to Feb. 25.
