Lollapalooza is one of the most popular music festivals in the U.S. Lollapalooza will occur from July 31 through Aug. 3 at Grant Park in Chicago. The official Lollapalooza lineup was released on their official Instagram page March 18, with their day-by-day lineup released March 20.
With artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Doechii and Tyler, The Creator appearing on the lineup, NIU students provided their thoughts on the artists set to perform.
Christopher Staton, a first-year music education major, loves Sabrina Carpenter and Doechii.
Q: “What’s your opinion on music festivals?”
A: “I have personally never been to a music festival, but I think it would be really fun to go because I really enjoy music.”
Q: “Have you seen this year’s Lollapalooza lineup?”
A: “Yes, I just saw it. I think it’s pretty solid. There’s not a lot of names that I do know, but some of the headliners I do listen to occasionally. I love Sabrina (Carpenter) and I love Doechii. So, those two I would like to see. I’m not familiar with Tyler’s (Tyler, The Creator) game, but I think I kind of enjoyed “CHROMAKOPIA,” and I would like to delve into that more. And Olivia Rodrigo’s OK. I mean, “GUTS” was a pretty good album.
Kyle Stojak, a first-year computer science major, would consider going to a music festival.
Q: “What’s your opinion on music festivals?”
A: “I have personally never been to a music festival, although it is something that is interesting. I talked with my girlfriend and all our friends about it. They’re like ‘oh you got to go, you got to go.’ And so, hopefully I do it sometime soon.”
Q: Have you seen this year’s Lollapalooza lineup?”
A: “So, I did take a quick peek at this year’s Lollapalooza lineup. I do see some of the big name artists and some of the little ones that I actually do know of. There’s a lot of them that I do not recognize.”
Madelyn Montiel, a first-year music education major, loves music festivals.
Q: “What’s your opinion on music festivals?”
A: “I honestly love them. I mean, I’ve never really been able to go to one, just because they’re hella expensive, but they’re super fun. I think it’s a great way for everyone to, like, get together that love music and just have fun for a few days.”
Q: “Have you seen this year’s Lollapalooza lineup?”
A: “Honestly, I really do like the lineup, especially with Tyler (The Creator) on there, with, like, he just dropped “CHROMAKOPIA.” A lot of people are going to be there for that. But no, I honestly loved the lineup and Doechii’s already on there. With her coming up super quick, it’s like, oh yeah, no, that’s good. That’s good stuff right there.”
