Chamber sponsors fundraiser

After a long stress-filled fall semester, $3,000 could take you on a holiday shopping spree or on a long-needed trip to a warm vacation spot if you win the grand prize.

The Greater DeKalb Chamber of Commerce will raffle off $6,000 in cash prizes today at the Hopkins Park Community Center, 1403 Sycamore Road in DeKalb, beginning at 7 p.m. with complimentary hors d‘ oeuvres and a cash bar.

The drawing will begin at 8 p.m. and only 250 tickets will be sold. “There is a limited number of tickets available in order for the figures to work out the best for the cash prizes,” said Chamber of Commerce Vice President Karen Remen.

All tickets will be drawn and every 10th ticket picked will win $100 with the 50th, 100th, 150th and 200th ticket drawn winning $250. The holder of the last ticket drawn will receive the Grand Prize of $3,000 cash. The cost of each ticket is $50 and winners need not be present to win. Tickets may be purchased through the Greater DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, 127 E. Lincoln Hwy. in DeKalb.

The Chamber of Commerce hopes to raise $6,500 and the proceeds from the fundraiser will be set aside for “chamber work.” “The money will be used to run the Chamber of Commerce and to fund different programs, activities, seminars and workshops,” Remen said. “We are here for the good of the community and we want to tell people about DeKalb and our businesses.”
