To prepare the beds for winter, the Communiversity Gardens hosted a fall prep workday on Oct. 21 from 3-6 p.m. on the east side of Anderson Hall.

Volunteers were able to help the whole time, were are not required to stay the whole time. Important tasks such as planting cover crops were accomplished during the workday.

“The cover crops we planted help control soil erosion and overall help the soil’s physical structure and fertility,” co-manager of the Communiversity Gardens Christine Lagattolla said.

The workday’s goal was to compost all of the dead plants and start planting heartier crops, such as rye, that will hold the soil together during winter, Lagattolla said.
