City parking changes to take effect August 29

By Northern Star Staff

The City of DeKalb will begin enforcing parking restrictions Aug. 29, according to a city press release. Until Aug. 28, vehicle users violating parking restrictions will be given a notice warning them of changing regulations.

The amendments change most on-street parking and spaces in the Embree, Pond and Van Buer lots to three-hour parking between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., parking will be unrestricted.  From 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., no parking will be allowed.

Parking permits are available for downtown residents, non-downtown residents and guests for overnight parking. Permits are free for qualified residents with proof of address.

Applications for parking permits for in four residential zones are available here.

A parking permit for residents living between First and Seventh Streets and Oak and Grove Streets are available here.

Guest permits can be purchased at the DeKalb Police Station, 700 W. Lincoln Highway, for $5 a day for a maximum of three days.
