The year 2016 was an amazing one for fashion as some of our favorite celebrities took major risks on and off the red carpet. These risks certainly paid off and here are some of the celebrities who made the biggest splash in the fashion industry this year.

Zendaya

If 2015 was the year Zendaya showed us who she is, 2016 was the year she solidified herself as one of the best dressed celebrities on the red carpet. She managed to not only look poised and elegant every time she stepped on the red carpet, but also to take major fashion risks. Zendaya supported the work of up-and-coming designers such as herself wearing clothes from her new clothing line Daya. Zendaya is a risk taker and does not dress to be on trend but rather in the things she likes. Although Zendaya is not a disney star anymore she is still conscious of who her core fans are and she always manages to look tasteful even when experimenting with riskier silhouettes.

Rihanna

Where do you even start with Rihanna? Not only was 2016 a good year for her in music, but it was a good year for her in fashion as well. With the success of her clothing line, Fenty, everyone can have a little bit of Rihanna in their closet. With her effortless mixing of the most popular street styles and most sought after high fashion, Rihanna continues to wow with her ever changing style on and off stage and that will forever make her a fashion icon. After all, not everyone can rock a bright red heart coat on the streets of New York and still look good.

Lady Gaga

This year the world got to see many sides of Gaga. Not only did we  see the crazy, eccentric Lady Gaga that we have all come to love, but also  her elegant side which was showcased at the 2016 Oscars when she wore a white Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit. Gaga is eccentric and elegant in every way; she was elegant with her Oscars outfit yet eccentric with her electric blue pant suit at the Grammys.  Gaga also managed to feel like ‘one of the girls’ when she sported the cut-off jean shorts and  t-shirt look while promoting her album Joanne.

Michelle Obama

Not only has Michelle Obama made major contributions to this country with her Let Girls Learn initiative that aims to help adolescent girls attain a quality education, but she has also made major contributions to the world of fashion. Although 2016 was her last year as First Lady, Obama did not disappoint and left the White House leaving her mark on fashion. With her mix of traditional elements and fashion risks she never disappointed. Who can forget that gold Versace dress! From the fit to the sheer sparkle of the dress, there is no doubt this dress will go down in history.
