There are plenty of things to check out this weekend if you’re gearing up for Halloween.

Grab your spookiest costume and head out this weekend, but be sure to trick-or-treat responsibly.

The NIU and DeKalb community can view the Stanley Kubrick classic “The Shining” at 7 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., as a part of the Egyptian Theatre’s Horror Film Series. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Stop by the Holmes Student Center if haunted houses are your thing. Come prepared to get your socks scared off at 8 p.m. in the Blackhawk Annex. Did we mention it is free?

The Stagecoach Players brings you the classic story of “Night of the Living Dead” at 7:30 p.m. at The Stagecoach Players, 126 S. Fifth St. Tickets are available online at bit.ly/1M2vbUl.

The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra invites music lovers to its annual Halloween concert. Attendees can either catch the 5:30 p.m. show or the 7:30 p.m. show in the Music Building, Boutell Memorial Concert Hall. The concert will feature music appropriate for children and adults. Children can trick or treat in the building half an hour before the concert begins.

Make sure you check out the Halloween Extravaganza at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. This event will include a few local DeKalb bands such as Nobelium 102, performing as Dead Kennedys, and Aberrant Hatter, performing as David Bowie. The bash begins at 8 p.m. Entry is $8 with a costume and $10 without one.
