Northern Star staff Don’t let a little rain and humidity stop you from enjoying these local events:

Today

The Art Museum’s annual Art To Lend artwork rental program will return and feature an exhibition including paintings, photographs and other artwork which highlight the program. Art To Lend allows students and faculty to rent artwork to enhance their personal and work spaces. The exhibition will start at 10 a.m. in the Altgeld Hall Art Museum.

Tuesday

The animated comedy “The Boxtrolls” will be shown during Sycamore’s Summer on State outdoor movie event. The movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. on the corners of Somonauk and Elm Streets. Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks.

Wednesday

Join local comedians for a night of free comedy at Open Mic Night at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. The event, hosted by Scott Galvin and Chris May, will begin at 8 p.m.

Thursday

Pick from hundreds of songs or watch friends and strangers alike get on stage and sing their hearts out. Hometown Sports Bar & Grill, 241 E. Lincoln Highway, will hold karaoke starting around 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Friday

Sycamore Park District will hold Canvas & Cocktail for people ages 21 and up. Attendees will have access to a cash bar as they follow along with art instructor Allison Marola to create paintings. The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Sycamore Golf Course Club House, 940 E. State St. Call 815-895-3202 for registration details.

Saturday

John Smith and the Shananigans will celebrate the release of “It’s Saturday Night – Let’s Dance” at the Lets Dance Big Band event. The show will include a patriotic salute, a presentation about the CD release and a performance by the band at 7:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Duke Ellington Ballroom.

Sunday

Blumen Gardens, 403 Edward St., will hold Sunday in the Garden from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature an artist’s market featuring a selected artist’s work.
