NIU Community School of Arts to hold recitals throughout May

The NIU Community School of the Arts will hold concerts throughout May featuring elementary and high school students who took private lessons in the spring semester.

Ensemble and solo performances will start Tuesday and conclude May 20 in the Recital Hall. The concerts are free and open to the public.

“The students have worked very hard over the course of the spring semester,” said Laura Weber, office manager for Visual and Performing Arts External Programming.

May concerts include:

Saturday

• The Suzuki Violin student graduation and annual group concert will be held at 10 a.m.

• The CSA Showcase recitals will be held at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

• The Suzuki and traditional guitar students of Eric Schroeder will perform at 5 p.m.

• The CSA Steelband and NIUkulele Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m.

May 3

• The harp and piano students of Jaina Krueger will perform at 1 p.m.

• The Suzuki cello students of Tom Cappaert will perform at 3 p.m.

May 6

• The CSA Guitar Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m.

May 13

• The CSA Sinfonia will perform at 7:30 p.m.

May 16

• The cello students of Linc Smelser will perform at 10:30 a.m.

• The Suzuki students of Ann Montzka-Smelser, Kara Eubanks, and Laurie Rodriguez, will perform at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

• The Suzuki piano students of Marilyn Montzka will perform at 5:30 p.m.

May 20

• The CSA Children’s Choir will perform at 7 p.m.
