Weekend Guide: April 30

There’s still time to enjoy some local events before the summer farewells begin.

Today

Black Theater Workshop will hold its spring showcase tonight. Acts will include singers, dancers, actors and spoken word artists. The show begins 6 p.m. in Gabel Hall, Cavan Auditorium. Admission is free.

Get out and enjoy the warm weather on an hour-long bike ride with Outdoor Adventures. The group will meet 4:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center. Riders of all skill levels are welcome and if you don’t have a bike, Outdoor Adventures will loan you a rental Trek mountain bike. Bikes are first come first serve.

Prepare for Friday’s release of “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” by watching the prequel. “The Avengers” will be shown 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Holmes Student Center, Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

Friday

Japanese band Peelander-Z will take Dekalb by storm Friday. The band will headline the show and incorporate audience participation in their set. Get ready to dance at 8 p.m. at The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway.

Saturday

Wear a mask, make a banner or decorate your pet and head down to the Artigras parade. The parade will kick off the Artigras festival, which will include a variety of art receptions and musical performances by some of the area’s top talent like the Harmolodics, an all female a cappela group and the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

Come in your brightest colors and watch the parade kick off 3 p.m. on N. Third Street. The parade will end at the Art Building parking lot located at the corner of College Avenue and Gilbert Drive.

The art museum will extend its hours from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in celebration of Artigras. Now is your chance if you haven’t taken advantage of viewing the beautful art in Altgeld Hall.

Sunday

Check out some relaxing music at Fatty’s Pub and Grille, 1312 W. Lincoln Highway. The event will feature artists from the International Association of Jazz Education. The event begins at 9 p.m. and admission is free.

“Shake, shake, shake it” with Metro Station — that’s right, Metro Station — 8 p.m. at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. The reunited pop duo will be accompanied by SayWeCanFly, 7 Minutes In Heaven and We Are Forever for a night of upbeat music and dancing. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at HouseCafeDekalb.com
