NIU women’s tennis: Huskies upset Toledo

By Northern Star staff

Women’s tennis earned its first victory over the Toledo Rockets since 2012 Friday.

The Huskies (11-4, 2-1 MAC) defeated the Rockets (11-6, 2-1 MAC), 4-3, at Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford. This is the first time since 2012 the Huskies have won more than one MAC match in a season.

The Huskies squeaked out the 4-3 victory despite not winning the all-important doubles point. The Huskies entered 0-4 on the season when they hadn’t taken the doubles point. They remedied the loss of the doubles point by winning four of the six singles matches.

Senior Nelle Youel pushed her undefeated start to the spring season to 25-0, including 15-0 in singles play, with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Youel’s doubles match with partner Cristina Alvarez went unfinished, leaving the duo at 10-0 on the spring.
