Northern Nights: Lord Stanley’s

By Carl Nadig

Lord Stanley’s, 142 E. Lincoln Highway, is an appropriate place for purchasing pitchers of domesticated beers with a group of friends and a few spare dollars in your wallet.

The bar is a fun place with a large group of friends, especially if you’re exploring the downtown DeKalb nightlife and surrounding bars.

The bar keeps a variety of domesticated beers on draft and bottles. Lord Stanley’s offers a special deal of purchasing two pitchers of domestic beer with a large, one-topping pizza for $17. If customers don’t want the deal with the pizza and beer, each pitcher of domestic beer costs $7 or a 16-inch, one-topping pizza is $16.50. If your taste buds are fans of Bud Light, Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Lite, Budweiser or Canadian Molson, you’ll find them stocked on draft. This bar offers special pitchers on 312 Urban Wheat Ale from Chicago and George Killian’s Irish Red from Colorado for $8 each. In the Annex, the bar keep a stock of bottled beers, such as Blue Moon, Shiner Bock and Moosehead Lager.

You’ll be lucky if you find a parking spot in front of the bar on Lincoln Highway, but there’s always free parking spots behind the building. On any given weekend, you can expect Lord Stanley’s to have a crowd, especially when there’s a Blackhawks game on, but the people are always friendly.

The major downside of this bar is it only accepts cash, which makes visiting ATMs an unnecessary hassle. Without a stage, this bar isn’t a place to go see DeKalb’s live music scene; however, its pool tables, dart boards and carved doodles on every table make this a necessary bar to experience before you graduate.
