2 Chainz show fails to impress

If you caught 2 Chainz at the Convocation Center Sunday night, why weren’t you at home studying for finals?

The concert began at 7:30 p.m. with the opening acts of students Jason Warrior and Keith Winford. The performers won the spots to open the show by auditioning April 6. With original tracks, Warrior and Winford provided an explosive introduction to the night. Yet, the audience couldn’t get motivated for these openers and weren’t encouraging to the unknown musicians.

The strongest parts of the 2 Chainz concert were when he confidently performed “Riot,” “Where U Been?” and “Used 2.”

Other energetic moments of his show came from a rendition of Nicki Minaj’s “Beez In the Trap” and A$AP Rocky’s “F**kin’ Problems.” Unfortunately, these radio hits were short-lived, ending within 30 seconds.

The schedule and length of the concert were its biggest problems. 2 Chainz’s performance was brief and ended at about 9:30 p.m. With a Sunday night show at a college town finishing in less than two hours, the concert was a flop.

The show’s attendance, at best, was unimpressive and didn’t even fill up the floor.

Why the concert was booked on a Sunday night, and just a week before finals, is beyond me. An up-and-coming rap artist like 2 Chainz deserved a better-scheduled event for students.

2 Chainz walked off the stage just as quickly as he arrived, and the show ended abruptly. It seemed to be an appropriate closing to a short concert. After 2 Chainz left, a small brawl broke out between two individuals. Everyone was instructed to leave after the arrests, and attendees slowly walked into the rain to face Monday morning.
