Two missing teens safe, returning home

Sean Staats, 16, and Mikayla Dick, 15, two DeKalb teens missing since Monday, reported themselves to the South Elgin police department around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

“They actually called the South Elgin police department, so they obviously wanted to come home,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Bob Redel.

Both parents and a DeKalb police officer are in the process of collecting the teens and gathering more details about the incident.

Police believe the teens ran away because the parents didn’t approve of them dating, but the DeKalb police department is still waiting to question them personally.

“They’re found, and they are safe,” Redel said.
