Monday

At 6:30 p.m., DeKalb police responded to an apartment in the 900 block of Ridge Drive to serve an arrest warrant to Christopher Baylis. After knocking on the door several times, Nicholas L O Morris, 18, of Riverdale, answered the door. Police asked if Baylis was there and Morris said no. Morris allowed police to enter the apartment and search the premises. Police located Baylis in a bedroom closet. Baylis was arrested and Morris was arrested for obstructing a peace officer. Morris was taken to the DeKalb Police Department, booked and later taken to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office to await a bond hearing.

At 11:27 p.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a red Buick traveling westbound. The driver turned right onto the 100 block of North Annie Glidden Road and when he did so, both his front and rear passenger tires jumped the east curb and he drove on the sidewalk and then drove back off of the sidewalk and proceeded northbound. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The officer smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from driver’s breath. The driver, Jarod M. Ackerman, 22, of DeKalb, admitted to consuming two beers prior to the traffic stop and said he did not mean to jump the curb. Ackerman failed field sobriety tests and submitted a breath sample of 0.185. Ackerman was arrested for driving under the influence and over .08 and driving on the sidewalk.
