At 2:00 a.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle turn eastbound onto the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway from South Seventh Street. The vehicle made a wide turn and went into the left lane and then abruptly jerked the vehicle back in the appropriate lane. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Melody D. Flanigan, 34, of Sycamore, had blood shot eyes and admitted to consuming two beers prior to the traffic stop. Flanigan refused to submit a breath sample and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage.

At 2:06 a.m., while on patrol a DeKalb police officer traveling southbound in the 100 block of North Annie Glidden Road observed a vehicle in front of his squad car cross over the center line. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Kara A. Reckrey, 31, of Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence and over .08, and improper lane usage.
