City blotter for 4/30/12

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Saturday

At 10:13 p.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle with a taillight out traveling westbound in the 300 block of East Locust Street. The officer checked the vehicle’s registration and it came back to a Honda. The vehicle was a Nissan. The officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Robert T. Jones, 25, of DeKalb, said the vehicle was purchased a week ago and the plates were never transferred over. Also, Jones couldn’t provide vehicle insurance and his license came back suspended. The officer also witnessed a small child not secured in a proper restraint system. The mother, Tamara M. McCollum, 38, of DeKalb, said she never properly restrained her son. McCollum was cited for a child restraint violation, signed her ticket and released. Jones was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Department and was later taken to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Jail.

At 11:31 p.m., DeKalb police responded to the 1000 block of Aspen Court in reference to a fight, which was later reclassified as criminal damage to a residence. Upon arrival, NIU police had detained a suspect, Dominique D. Pickens, 23, of Milwaukee, Wis. Pickens entered a residence, refused to leave and then grabbed the complainant by the arm. Pickens was charged with criminal trespass to a residence and battery. Pickens was arrested and taken to the DeKalb Police Department.
