DeKalb police arrested a man on an outstanding warrant for the failure to appear in court for attempted first degree murder at 1:12 a.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of East Lincoln Highway.

While patrolling, police observed two men standing outside self-storage units who promptly ran inside when seeing the squad car, police said. Officers checked the area on foot and located the suspects playing music inside one of the units. Police made contact with one of the men when he left the unit to see if the police were gone.

Police identified the man as Shaun R. Mitchell, 23, of 1106 Glidden Ave. Mitchell told police his friends rented the unit for their band.

Dispatch advised that Mitchell had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court on attempted first-degree murder charges.

Mitchell was allegedly involved in a fight during which a person was stabbed, said DeKalb police Sgt. Jason Leverton. The incident occurred on March 7, 2004 in the 700 block of West Lincoln Highway.

Police set Mitchell’s bond at $50,000. He must pay 10 percent in order to post. Police transported Mitchell to DeKalb County Jail after he was unable to post bond.
