Two bicyclists were struck by cars along the perimeter of NIU’s campus Thursday in separate incidents.

The first incident occurred at 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Castle Drive and Lincoln Highway.

A car was stopped at a red light and was preparing to make a right turn onto Lincoln Highway when it collided with a man riding a bike.

The bicyclist said he thought he made eye contact with the driver before passing through the intersection, DeKalb police said. An ambulance arrived on the scene but did not need to take the victim to the hospital.

The second incident occurred a few hours later at Mason Properties, 120 N. Annie Glidden Road.

A car was getting ready to pull out into traffic and turn onto Annie Glidden Road when it struck a girl riding her bike, police said.

Both the victim and the driver claimed they did not see each other before the accident.

Bushes obstructed the view of both parties, police said, and prevented them from seeing each another. Soon after the accident, an ambulance arrived on the scene and took the victim to Kishwaukee Hospital, 626 Bethany Road, for treatment.

No charges were filed in either incident.
