Sorority to raise money for

Delta Phi Epsilon is sponsoring its eighth annual “Campus Faces” to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The philanthropy is a talent show for fraternities and sororities, said Andrea Tobiaski, a junior corporate fitness major and member of Delta Phi Epsilon. It will be held on Sunday from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Jungle.

“The most money ever raised has been $1,200,” Tobiaski said. The sorority would like to reach a goal of $1,500 this time, she added.

She explained that some of the rules have changed from the past.

“Up until now sororities couldn’t participate as contestants in the talent show, but this is the first year they can,” Tobiaski said.

She also added that this is the first year contestants don’t have restrictions on what their talent consists of.

Tobiaski said there is a $25 entrance fee for each fraternity or sorority to participate.

There is a 50-point judging scale that is based on originality, overall performance, audience response, overall appearance, clarity and showmanship, Tobiaski said. Judges consist of NIU faculty, she added.

Clarity and showmanship are five points each and all other judging criteria are 10 points each, Tobiaski added.

Tobiaski said there is a first-place prize of $250, a second-place prize of $100 and a third-place prize of $50.

There also will be penny voting until Thursday in Cole Hall and the Pow Wow, but it doesn’t go toward the fraternities or sororities overall point total, Tobiaski added.

“In the past, penny voting was included in your score,” Tobiaski said. “This year your penny voting score has nothing to do with the overall talent score.”

In addition, she said there will be door prizes. Everyone who walks in the door gets a ticket to win a door prize, she added.

As of now there are 40 door prizes, Tobiaski said, most of which are donated from the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and White Sox. Some of the teams sent some autographed prizes, she said.

Tobiaski said various other DeKalb businesses also donated prizes.

Men will be judged on the best chest and ladies on the best legs, Tobiaski said.

Tobiaski said there is $3 charge to get in at the door or buy advance tickets at the penny voting tables.

She added there also is a group rate available for $50 if a house wants to pay $50 for all members to attend. The only stipulation is members must wear their greek letters.
