Job fair to offer positions

Students graduating in May or August are encouraged to take advantage of the 1992 Spring Job Fair.

Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom, nearly 100 companies will attend the fair, getting to know prospective employees from NIU.

Campus Recruiting Coordinator Jean Callary said the fair is geared primarily toward entry-level college graduates.

Callary said in preparation for the event, students should know which employers they are most interested in talking to before coming to the fair, so they can use their time wisely.

Callary said students can expect employers to be sitting at tables in the Ballroom and Capitol room. She added that students will be able to go in and talk to the employers to ask them questions about positions available or about the company itself. Callary said some organizations schedule formal interviews with students for a later time.

However, Callary said students still should dress professionally and treat this event as a formal interviewing opportunity. Also students should bring plenty of resumes, a reference sheet and a copy of their transcripts.

“The student should be enthusiastic when talking to employers because they want to see that you’re interested in working for them,” she said.

Callary said some of the employers attending the Spring Job Fair are CNA Insurance, Casual Corner (women’s clothing store), the F.B.I., Farmers Insurance Group, Footlocker and Microswitch.
