Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White revealed a new ad campaign featuring Phillip Hanks, a five-time organ recipient who received all five organs from the same donor. The campaign marks the beginning of National Donate Life Month in April.

“Phillip’s story shows how organ and tissue donation saves lives,” White said. “Phillip was able to be there for the birth of his granddaughter, and he now works as an advocate for my office with the organ/tissue donor program. He reminds us that by registering to become an organ donor, you, too, could help change someone’s story.”

Hanks received a liver transplant in 2007, which caused an extra valve in the liver to produce extra tissue. The tissue blocked a vital vein, which required the five-organ transplant. Last April, Hanks received a new liver, small and large intestine, stomach, pancreas and kidney.

“My story goes on because a person I never met made a choice that saved my life,” said Hanks.
