A black 1991 Nissan NX 2000 valued at $14,000 was stolen from an NIU parking lot Friday or Saturday.

The theft occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday from the parking lot between Gilbert Drive and the NIU Art Building.

University Police Lt. Kathy Guimond said the victim parked his car Friday night and when he returned Saturday morning, the vehicle was gone.

The victim told police there were no keys in the car when it was taken and there are no copies of the keys.

“The law requires that all persons who operate a car to remove the keys and lock the vehicle. It is a national safety law,” Guimond said.

She said there is no evidence of towing and at this point there are no suspects and the incident is under investigation.

If anyone has any information about the theft, contact the University Police.
