Last week’s Week of Welcome saw many new Huskies – and many experienced Huskies – arriving on campus for the first time this year.
Regardless if you’re a first-year or a senior, all students have made one common decision: we chose to give NIU a chance as our university!
For the first street interviews of the semester, the Northern Star asked students why they chose NIU for college, and what class – real or imaginary – they’d most want to take.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE INTERVIEWS
Xiontie Bell, junior business management major
Q: Why did you choose NIU?
A: “Honestly, it was close to home, and my mom, she doesn’t like traveling that far just to be practical. But, I also had family members who went to NIU, and they said that it’s kind of like a, it’s a ‘what-you-make-it’ experience, so I was like, ‘why not?’”
James Huynh, junior marketing major
Q: Why did you choose NIU?
A: “My brother went here, he’s alumni for accountancy. Right now I’m majoring in marketing, and I’m also here because I’m on a full-ride scholarship with Rockford Promise.”
Divine O’Neal, freshman psychology major
Q: If you could take any class – real or imaginary – what would it be?
A: “I’d take a class, like, teaching me magic and stuff. I want to ride a broom, figure out how to ride a broom, cast some spells.”
Mariana Hernandez, freshman biology major
Q: If you could take any class – real or imaginary – what would it be?
A: “Probably, like, lowkey a fashion design, like I know you guys probably have this, but like clothing and like, sewing and just like something like that, and like revamping clothes and stuff like that.”
Isaac Garcia, junior health sciences major
Q: If you could take any class – real or imaginary – what would it be?
A: “I love animals, so I was, like, thinking like a class about, like, dogs or penguins, since those are my favorite.”
