Men’s basketball: Highsmith out for rest of season

Dontel Highsmith, men’s basketball sophomore guard, is going to be out for the rest of the season as he may need to undergo a second knee operation.

“Unfortunately, Dontel Highsmith is going to be more than likely out for the season,” said head coach Mark Montgomery. “We’re going to go back in there and take a look at his knee again. We’re just waiting for the swelling to go down and more than likely he’s going to need surgery again.”

During his freshman campaign, Highsmith tore his left ACL against the Iowa State Cyclones Dec. 31. Prior to the injury, he was shooting 53.9 percent from the floor and averaging 10.5 points per game.

Highsmith was previously expected to be back sometime in December. He will be able to take a redshirt for this season, preserving three more years of eligibility.
