The NIU Esports program will be hosting a homecoming game night at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 in the NIU Esports Arena in Altgeld 100.

“Smash from the Past” is a combination of a retro game night and a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament.

The game night is free to attend and gamers of all skill levels are welcome. All attendees will receive a free NIU Esports coozie.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament has a $5 entrance fee which is to be paid at the door and is card only.

The tournament will be in a bracket format with each match’s winner being determined by the best of three matches until the top three. The top three winners are determined by the best of five matches.

The winner of the tournament will receive a Nintendo Switch Game of their choice and an NIU Esports tumbler. The runner-up will receive the tumbler as well, but instead of the Switch Game, they will get a 12-month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. Finally, third place will receive only the 12-month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.

For those interested in competing, pre-registration is required and closes at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5.
