The NIU Dietetic interns are putting on a Hawaiian-themed dinner from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Patterson Dining Center in the Fanny Ruth Patterson Complex, formerly known as New Hall.

The menu will include Hawaiian chicken, vegan Huli-Huli cauliflower bites, DIY Hawaiian rice bowls, pineapple fried rice, shaved ice and other Hawaiian-themed foods.

To fit the theme, the dining hall will have window decorations, entertainment on the big screen and a hula-hoop contest.

According to Brian Pringnitz, the food service manager at the Patterson Dining Center, the event is a major project for the dietetic interns.

Each semester, the interns host a series of themed dinners. This semester, they chose to base the themes off locations. Past interns have chosen other themes to base their menu around, such as sitcoms and other TV shows, according to Pringnitz.

“They chose a menu focused on unique foods for the theme,” Pringnitz said.
