DeKALB – Graduate guard Janae Poisson is the second women’s basketball player in as many weeks to be named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week after a historic performance against the Western Illinois University Leathernecks on Thursday.

Poisson spearheaded NIU’s offense with 32 points off the bench, 21 of those coming from behind the three-point line. Her 32 points and nine three-pointers in a single game set career highs. Poisson also became the 33rd player in NIU women’s basketball history to score 1,000 points for her career.

The seventh-year player currently leads the Huskies with 68 points. Poisson also has the most three-point field goals under her belt, recording 17 through the first four games of the season.

Poisson and the Huskies will return to the court at 3 p.m. Tuesday. NIU will take on the University of Detroit Mercy for a road battle with the Titans.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced Nov. 28.

The Northern Star Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their performance in competitions taking place from Nov. 14 to Nov. 20.
